This musician, scientist and explorer was part of the Antarctic Biennale, the first ever art expedition to the shores of Antarctica. Performing barefoot at Paradise Bay in March 2017 she created a musical work that viscerally captures the Antarctic environment. Dropping hydrophones into the frozen sea and laying them on ice sheets, Shama recorded in situ sounds of whale song and cracking ice — and integrated those sounds in songs.
